Mark has been brought up with cars in his blood, and his
earliest memories are helping out at his father's garage along
with his brother. Mark's father, John Waghorn was servicing
2CV's and other Citroens from the late 1950's in Brixton,
South London.
The relationship with Citroen was cemented when John became
an official Citroen dealer, BWB, in 1968. BWB started life
in Brixton but as the dealership expanded, moved to Clapham,
South London.
Citroen Motorsport was also an important part of both the
brothers early years.
2CV's were very much part of the Waghorn's life, that it
seemed natural that John bought the 2CV wrecks that had been
used in the 1979 James Bond film - For Your Eyes Only - from
Citroen Slough. These cars all had GS engines in and were
broken up at the Brixton garage.

1970's: Both Mark and his brother John competed in 2CV popcross
for many years. This form of motorsport was very popular across
Europe, and most weekends were spent competing in France,
Belgium, Holland & the UK.
Mark won the under 18 championship & came 4th in the
British championship.
|
 |
|
1980's: Mark then progressed into single seater racing, competing
first in FF1600's and the FF2000.
During these years Mark competed against the likes of Ayrton
Senna, Johnny Herbert, Mark Blundell & Eddie Irvine.
Mark drove a FF1600 Van Diemen in the Dunlop Star of Tomorrow
Championship for 1 yr.
|
 |
|
The following years were in a FF2000 RF81 Van Diemen in various
championships, including the BBC Grandstand championship.
It was during this time that Mark's very successful sponsorship
partnership with pop group Level 42 first began. The FF2000
had the group's 'World Machine' album logo all over it &
attracted national press attention.
At this time Mark also tested a FF2000 for the French Car
manufacturer Rondeau at Le Mans. Jean Rondeau won Le Mans
in his own car in 1980.

 |
|
There was then progression away from single seaters and into
production saloon's. Mark competed in the Monroe Shock absorber
Production Saloon championship with a Fiat Abarth. This championship
was the forerunner to what is now the successful Touring Cars
championship. Mark was racing amongst Andy Rouse, Tim Harvey,
Vic Lee, Robb Gravett & Frank Sytner.
This car finished 3rd in 2 Litre class & 7th overall
in 1986.
|
 |
| The following year there was a new
car - this time a Fiat Uno Turbo. The Level 42 partnership continued,
and to support the launch of the latest album, the Uno had the
'Running in the Family' album cover livery. Again attracting
good coverage in both motoring & music press alike. |
 |
| After two years of Production Saloons,
Mark went back to his single seater roots and competed in the
Championship of Brands Hatch in a Swift FB88. |
 |
|
1990's: There were rumours of the birth of a new championship.
The National 2CV championship was born and Mark was involved
from inception.
The highlight of the racing calendar was the annual 24 hr
race at Mondello Park, Ireland.
Over the years of competing in this event Mark has had success
with 3rd & two MWR built & prepared cars finishing
5th & 6th in the same year.
|
 |
|
After years of supporting Mark, one of the cars prepared
had Mike Lindup of Level 42 behind the wheel.
Mike enjoyed two seasons and came 3rd in the championship.
|
 |
|
Now Mark has interests in the European 2CV championship,
with a car co-owned with David O'Keefe & Colin Whitely,
which is currently lying 2nd in the championship.
